Did you know that June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month, and June 17th is National Eat Your Vegetables Day1? Fruits and vegetables are the perfect companion for other well-known June activities of BBQs, picnics, and other food-focused fun.  Below are some fun facts about fruits and vegetables to help you plan the menu for your next outdoor June activity.

  • The USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends consumption of 3 to 5 servings of vegetables per day. 
  • The average American eats 273.2 lbs of fruit and 415.4 lbs of vegetables per year2.
  • A strawberry is not an actual berry, but a banana is.
  • A watermelon contains 92% water3.
